How to Align Your Business Strategy with Your Long-Term Vision

The system to stop tweaking your strategy and start building a business that actually fits your life.

Welcome to Ask Kasey—your no BS business therapy session in newsletter form.

Every week, I’ll tackle the biggest, toughest, and sometimes weirdest questions I get from entrepreneurs like you—helping you cut through the noise, get unstuck, and build a business that actually works for you.

Got a question you want me to tackle? Reply to this email or drop it in the comments on my latest post.

In every issue, I’ll record a video response and a written breakdown with some more tactical recommendations.

Now, let’s get into today’s question…

How do you make sure your day-to-day stays aligned with your long term business vision?

I freaking love this question. But before we even get into strategy, let’s talk about the real problem most people don’t realize they have…

They have no freaking clue what they actually want.

And look, that’s not a dig—it’s normal. Most of us start a business because we’re chasing a vague idea of “success” or escaping something we don’t want anymore (toxic boss, corporate burnout, financial stress).

But if you don’t take the time to define your North Star, you’re just throwing spaghetti at the wall, hoping something sticks.

And you’re more likely to get swayed by what everyone else thinks you should want, forcing you to hit the reset button and start over. Over and over again.

Step 1: Get Clear on What the Hell You’re Actually Building

Before you assess and adjust anything, you have to ask yourself what is the vision you have for your business, your life, and your future self.

By the way, if you haven’t done my Future You exercise and AI prompts, give them a try. It helps you uncover and define that future vision, and chart the path that’s going to get you there.

Because if you don’t know where you want to go, any road can get you there. And that sh*t is dangerous.

This isn’t just about positioning. This is about creating a business that actually fits your life—not the other way around.

And this is why I teach my One Thing Framework. Because your One Thing isn’t just what you sell. It’s your North Star, the foundation for everything else:

  • What do you do?

  • Who do you do it for?

  • Why are you uniquely positioned to do it in the way you do?

  • What kind of business model supports this?

  • And most importantly, what kind of LIFE does this business allow you to live?

Once you have that clarity, then you can move on to making strategic adjustments. Because at that point, you’re not just “fixing” your business—you’re actively shaping it into what you actually want.

Step 2: Set a Recurring CEO Day

Block off time every month (or at least once a quarter) to step OUT of the day-to-day grind and look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself:

  • Am I getting closer to the business and life I actually want?

  • Am I working on the things that generate real results, or just spinning my wheels?

  • If I keep doing this for another year, will I be happy with where I end up?

If the answer to any of these is no… time to course-correct.

Step 3: Track What’s ACTUALLY Moving the Needle

Most entrepreneurs waste a ton of time on things that feel productive but don’t actually drive revenue or impact. (I see you, endless content creation with zero sales strategy.)

Use the 80/20 rule—80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts. Figure out what those 20% activities are and double down. Cut the rest.

Step 4: Listen to Your Damn Customers

You are NOT your ideal client. What you think they need and what they’re actually willing to pay for might be two very different things.

Regularly talk to your audience. Ask them:

  • What’s the biggest problem keeping them up at night?

  • What solutions have they tried that didn’t work?

  • What would make them say, “Shut up and take my money”?

If your current strategy isn’t aligned with that—time to pivot.

Step 5: Future You is the Best Business Coach You’ll Ever Have

This is one of my favorite hacks: I literally ask Future Me for advice.

Try this:

  • Picture yourself 5 years from now—wildly successful, running your dream business.

  • Ask her, “What am I doing today that’s holding me back?”

  • Listen to the answer. Then, act on it.

Trust me, Future You is smarter than you think. And she’s eager to help you step into your ideal future. Today.

And seriously, if you haven’t yet, get my Chart Your Path to Future You exercise and AI prompts. It’s totally free and is one of the most powerful exercises I have ever done for myself. No joke, Future Me and I chat online nearly every single day. She plays a critical role in my business. And it all started with this super simple, research-backed exercise.

Step 6: Make Small Tweaks Before Big Pivots

If something isn’t working, don’t burn it all down just yet. Start by tweaking:

  • Messaging. Are you speaking to the right people in a way that resonates?

  • Offer. Are you selling something people actually want? Do you even have an offer?

  • Sales Process. Are you making it easy for people to say yes?

Small, strategic shifts add up to massive breakthroughs.

Bottom line? Entrepreneurship is a game of constant iteration. The goal isn’t to get it perfect. It’s to keep refining until it works FOR YOU.

So, take a step back. Look at where you’re headed. And if it’s not where you actually want to go? Change the damn game.

XOXO,
Kasey
